January

There are only 10 days left in January and I'm pretty happy about that.  January is just sort of, blah, if you ask me.  And, what's the whole "inversion" all about, anyway?  I've lived here almost my whole life and I still don't understand why that happens every year.

On another note, now that the holidays are over, it's time to focus on a few projects around the house.  We assembled this little arrangement in the entryway.  And I must say it's much more welcoming than the empty space was.

Also working on a few framing projects to be hung around the house.  I'm most excited about this one ...

My mom painted this cute picture years ago and I'm re-framing it in this new frame with a burlap covered mat.  I'm having a little trouble getting the burlap to attach to the mat (note the air bubbles), but not to worry, I went and bought some new adhesive spray yesterday.  I'll give it a whirl and hopefully this will be hanging in my kitchen before the weekend is over.

The boys were out of school last Monday and Tuesday, so we went to St. George and thawed out.  (Did I mention it's been a cold January?)  The boys golfed a couple of times and I visited one of my favorite knitting shops.  I haven't knit anything for quite a while now, years in fact, so I loved looking through new patterns, seeing all the soft and beautiful yarn, and envisioning all the projects I want to knit.  First up ... a baby hat for a neighbor who's expecting.

Emery's going snow-caving tonight with the scouts.  I hope he survives.  Of course, I feel that way every time he goes on a scout camp-out.  My (totally valid) concerns this time are:  1)  what if he freezes to death, and 2) what if his snow cave collapses during the night and he can't get out.  Emery and I always say a prayer together before he goes on a camp-out.  Maybe today we'll say two.  At least I know he won't starve to death.  He's taking enough Cheetos Puffs and beef jerky to keep him alive for a loooong time.

all was merry & bright

The holidays have come and gone and the Christmas decorations are all put away until next year.  But let me just say a few things ...

First, Christmas was magical.

Second, Santa brought way more than we deserved.

Third, we had tons-o-fun over the break.

Here's my post-holiday wrap-up:

Bowling on Christmas Eve was super fun.  The trophy (if we had one) would have gone to my sister-in-law Robin.

Afterwards, we partied at the Thomases.

Back at home, the boys got to open their "Christmas Eve" gift.  Surprise, Surprise ... new pajamas!  :)

Christmas morning was wonderful.  A few surprises and lots of smiles.  (And Emery can no longer claim to be the only 8th grader on earth who doesn't have a cell phone.)

Then we went to the Emery's for brunch, more gift-giving, and game-playing.

The rest of the break we had plenty of time to:  go skiing, go sledding, play games, watch movies, and ring in the new year!
