first day of school

Summer seemed to fly by this year, and none of us were ready for school to start. We still had a long list of things we wanted to do before the days of alarm clocks and homework came around.  Ready or not, here's what the first day of school looked like around here ...

the first day of school

Today was the day the boys have been dreading for weeks.  This morning, Emery said this was the worst day of the whole year, and Sam and Luke were both adamant that they DID NOT want school to start and they WERE NOT ready for summer break to end.  But, you know what?  Judging by the looks on their faces when they got home from school, I don't think it was all that bad.  I actually think they may have enjoyed it (a little)!  New schools, new teachers, new friends ... Sam and Luke even get to ride the bus now.  Sweet.

This morning was a little extra-crazy because our power had been out since yesterday afternoon.  The boys couldn't even have their "usual" breakfasts since we couldn't use the toaster or the microwave ... no oatmeal, no toast, no eggos.  Darn.

Luckily, everyone made it to school despite the lack of power, and even more luckily, school wasn't cancelled even though the school buildings didn't have power!  (Side note ... I really, really like having power.  Electricity is a beautiful thing.)  So, here are the "first day of school" pics ...

I think it's going to be a great year!
