when you're a mom

When you're a mom, you spend hours making an alligator box for Valentine's Day.

When you're a mom, you spend hours (the next night) making cakes that look like rockets for pack meeting.

When you're a mom, you're happy when your 8th grader receives lots of Valentines from junior high girls, (but you're not sure how you feel about the one that says, "I love you sooo much.")

When you're a mom, you giggle when you see notes like this on the kitchen counter.

And when you're a mom, your heart melts when you receive notes like this.

trying out new things

We've been trying out a few new things around here ...

Emery decided to try junior high wrestling this year.  He's two weeks in, and so far, so good.  I've never been a big wrestling fan.  I think it must be a "guy thing."  But, Emery's loving it, so I guess I'm going to be a wrestling fan after all.

I've been trying out lots of new knitting stitches lately while making these (super cute) baby hats and this (darling) headband.  I wore the headband skiing last weekend and I pretty much love it.

Sam decided to try and beat the record for eating the most snickerdoodles in one evening.  He managed to put down at least seven.  I sure hope they tasted better going down than they did coming up a few hours later.  Besides throwing-up twice during the night, he also stayed home from school the next day since he had a stomach ache.  Nice.

And, while we're on the subject, Jimmy threw-up about four times last week.  I think just about the only thing yuckier than people throw-up is dog throw-up.  Good thing he's not my dog so I didn't have to clean it up.  {Well, technically he is my dog since Ben and the boys gave him to me for Mother's Day a few years ago, but that's beside the point.}  And, for the record, Ben received a sweet new vacuum for Father's Day that year.  :)

hitting the slopes

Last Saturday, this group of hot-doggers hit the slopes:

Now, skiing is always fun, but when you get to ski with "the cousins" (as they are affectionately called) it's almost too good to be true.

There were lots of smiles and laughs, and plenty of crashes (including two collisions), but we had a fab-u-lous time.  And here's my favorite photo of the day... a nice shot of my kneecap with Emery jumping in the background:
